Eurovision Debates Israel, Forgetting Russia's Swift Exit
The European Broadcasting Union, guardians of musical harmony, is now 'debating' Israel’s future in Eurovision. This comes after calls for exclusion due to the war in Gaza. Curiously, Russia was swiftly expelled from the contest in February 2022 following its full-scale invasion of Ukraine. For Israel, with its documented destruction of Gaza’s infrastructure and starvation tactics , the EBU seems
to prefer a more 'measured discussion.' One might wonder if the definition of 'unacceptable aggression' shifts depending on whether the aggressor is a major US ally. Or perhaps, the EBU's moral compass just spins a little slower when Western interests are involved. It certainly appears the show must go on, even if it means humming over the cries of a starving populace.
