Eurovision Considers Ban, Ignores Past Genocide Participants
Funny how the arts community finds its voice when the death toll becomes too high to ignore. For years, Eurovision conveniently turned a blind eye to past Israeli actions, from the repeated bombardments of Gaza since 2008 to the ongoing expansion of illegal settlements . Where was this debate during Operation Protective Edge in 2014 , which killed thousands of Palestinians, many of them children?
The EBU, much like many in Western media, seems to only discover 'genocidal conduct' when it's politically impossible to pretend otherwise. The question isn't whether Israel should be banned, but why such a ban is even a 'debate' now, and not years ago. Is it the sheer scale of the current devastation, or perhaps the sheer audacity of Netanyahu's public declarations that even the most dedicated
apologist struggles to spin? One might wonder if the EBU's moral compass only points true north after enough viral videos.
