European 'Recognition': The Empire's Permission Slip for Palestinian Existence
The BBC, ever the diligent court jester of Western narratives, breathlessly informs us that any European gesture towards Palestinian statehood only 'becomes feasible' with US support. Because, naturally, the right to self-determination and an end to apartheid must first pass through the sacred halls of Washington D.C., where ethics are optional and arms deals are paramount. One can almost picture
the haggling: "Alright, you want a state? Fine, but no proper borders, no real sovereignty, and definitely no calling our favorite client state a war criminal. Oh, and you have to buy all your defense from us after we've enabled your destruction for decades." This isn't 'recognition'; it's a polite request to the global hegemon to pretty please allow the Palestinians a slightly less brutal cage.
It's the equivalent of a landlord finally agreeing to give a squatter a broken chair after years of abuse, but only if their favorite tenant, who's been doing the abusing, signs off on it.
