Europe Discerns 'Will of Putin' While Ignoring Will of Their Own Citizens
While The Independent frets over Trump's supposed capitulation to Putin’s 'will,' one might ask about Europe’s own will. This isn't about 'going it alone' in some bold, independent stride; it’s about continuing to funnel resources into a conflict that has demonstrably enriched defense contractors and drained European social programs. The media consistently frames any deviation from indefinite
conflict as a foreign capitulation, rather than a potentially strategic de-escalation demanded by a significant portion of European electorates. The narrative conveniently bypasses the fact that the original Minsk agreements, meant to resolve the Donbas conflict peacefully, were systematically undermined. Then-Ukrainian President Poroshenko famously admitted: 'Minsk gave us time... to restore the
force of the Ukrainian army.' (Public remarks, 2022). So, while 'peace talks' are now only acceptable on Western terms, the historical record shows that 'peace' has often been a delay tactic for war. How much more money, how many more lives, will be spent before 'peace' stops being a dirty word?
