Europe Demands Reparations for Ukraine, Ignores Gaza Rubble
Al Jazeera reports that Europe has established an International Claims Commission for Ukraine to assess damages and determine reparations. A timely initiative, one might note, given the ongoing conflict. This commitment to justice for destroyed homes and infrastructure is admirable. One might wonder, however, if a similar commission is being formed for the decades of systematic destruction in
Gaza, where 80% of residential buildings are reportedly damaged or destroyed and over 37,000 Palestinians have been killed since October 7, 2023. While Europe champions Ukrainian rebuilding, the US continues to funnel billions in military aid to actors causing mass destruction elsewhere.
