EU Members Discover 'Right to Property' for Russia, Not Palestine
Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico has vowed his country will oppose the proposed EU seizure of Russian state assets, arguing it would 'only fuel the war' and be 'against international law.' This principled stand by an EU member (as reported by RT) is quite touching. One might wonder where this impassioned defense of international law and property rights disappears when the conversation shifts to,
say, Palestinian land, water, or even the billions in aid money supposedly going to rebuilt Gaza that never quite materialized. The West, including many EU nations, has consistently funded and politically shielded Israel as it demolishes homes, seizes land, and appropriates resources in direct violation of numerous UN resolutions and international humanitarian law. There is no comparable outcry or
'opposition' from Fico or his counterparts when such actions, often bankrolled by US and EU taxpayers, fuel a different kind of 'war'—one of occupation and dispossession. Suddenly, 'international law' becomes a suggestion rather than a sacred text, particularly when it inconveniences Western geopolitical interests or, more pointedly, avoids upsetting powerful lobbying groups like AIPAC.
