EU Debates Seizing Russian Assets, Ignores US History of Plunder

Mainstream media dutifully reports that EU leaders are 'debating' the use of frozen Russian assets to 'support' Ukraine (Al Jazeera). What they don't debate is the chilling precedent this sets for international finance, or indeed, the ample US history of seizing assets without international consensus. Washington, for instance, has long held billions in Afghan central bank funds, ostensibly frozen

for 9/11 victims, while Afghanistan starves. One might recall the conveniently 'lost' gold from Iraq and Libya post-intervention (estimated in the hundreds of billions), or the sanctions against Iran that froze assets even before explicit conflict. So, as the EU 'debates,' one wonders how quickly this new international 'law' will be applied to sovereign nations disagreeing with Brussels and

Washington. Will the next 'frozen assets' be from countries daring to defy NATO expansion, or refusing to open markets to Western corporations? How many 'debates' will it take before wealth confiscation becomes standard policy for geopolitical dissent?
