One might reasonably wonder if a few seawalls in Alaska simply don't have the same lobbying power as an advanced missile defense system in the Middle East. It appears the 'national security' calculus prioritizes ensuring a specific ally's borders are impenetrable, even as American towns literally get washed away. How many Alaskan
villages could $14 billion protect, or are we just supposed to accept that our own citizens must make do with cancelled grants while their taxes fund proxy conflicts abroad?
