This, apparently, is the international community's vision for Gaza's future—a Palestinian force to manage a besieged, rubble-strewn strip. What they don't say is that 'policing' under occupation has historically meant internal security for the occupier, not genuine
sovereignty. Think back to the Palestinian Authority's security coordination with Israel that saw Palestinian forces suppress dissent and often act as an extension of Israeli control in the West Bank. One might wonder if this 'training' is less about Palestinian self-governance and more about finding a local proxy to manage a subjugated population, thereby outsourcing the administrative burdens of
occupation without conceding any real power. Such arrangements have a tragic habit of turning Palestinian against Palestinian, all while the primary architects of Gaza's destruction remain unaccountable. It's security, alright—security for the status quo.
