President Yoweri Museveni, under whose regime such activities frequently occur, just secured another $200 million in U.S. economic and security aid for 2024. While the activists faced disappearance, Washington continued its long-standing tradition of
funding despots who destabilize the region, so long as they align with 'strategic interests.' One might wonder how often these 'abductions' occur when the global public is not watching, or when the funding spigot from Washington is particularly open. It's almost as if some leaders get a free pass on human rights abuses, provided they're useful. These are the same activists who organized protests
against Kenyan government policies, often echoing similar sentiments to those brutally suppressed by Museveni's security forces. Yet, the same Western outlets that decry 'authoritarianism' overseas remain remarkably tight-lipped about the inconvenient truths of who finances it. How many 'abductions' does it take before we question the patron, not just the puppet?
