It’s a humanitarian crisis framed as an inevitable tragedy, rather than an outcome of specific, documented foreign policy choices. The report highlights Afghanistan, Ukraine, and Yemen – but the latter's brutal, US-backed Saudi war, which has led to widespread starvation and child casualties,
rarely gets the same prominent, critical framing as the others. While lamenting the plight of children, mainstream media often fails to interrogate the military-industrial complex's role. For instance, the US Congress routinely authorizes billions in military aid, like the recent $14.5 billion package to Israel (HR 815, 2023), often supported by politicians who receive significant campaign
contributions from pro-war lobbying groups. This kind of aid directly fuels certain conflicts while the humanitarian costs are treated as an unfortunate, disconnected byproduct.
