DW Discovers 'Kurdish Forces' in Syria, Forgetting Who Armed Them
Deutsche Welle blandly states “Kurdish forces leave Aleppo after days of fighting,” as if these are spontaneous, self-funded militias. What DW neglects to mention is the decade-long U.S. intervention that armed, trained, and funded these very forces (SDF, primarily YPG) to the tune of billions. Remember the 'fight against ISIS'? That convenient narrative allowed the U.S. to establish military
bases, bypass Syrian sovereignty, and destabilize the region – all while 'our allies' the Kurds did the ground fighting. (How many times have 'our allies' been abandoned after serving their purpose? See Afghanistan, 1991 Iraqi Kurds.) So, when these 'Kurdish forces' move, it's less an independent strategic decision and more like a tactical repositioning in a much larger,
internationally-orchestrated game. One might wonder why DW fails to connect these rather significant dots. Perhaps acknowledging the overt foreign meddling makes the story less digestible for a populace grown weary of endless proxy wars and manufactured conflicts. After all, it's easier to report on 'forces' than on 'geopolitical chess pieces maneuvered by Washington and Ankara.'
