DOJ Sues Virginia, Ignores Billion-Dollar Corporate Welfare
According to The Hill, the DOJ is suing Virginia over a state law providing tuition aid to students granted special immigrant status, claiming it violates federal law. This, from the same Department of Justice that supervises a system where corporations like Boeing and Lockheed Martin receive billions in taxpayer subsidies and tax breaks annually. In 2023 alone, Lockheed Martin reported $67.6
billion in net sales, much derived from government contracts. Yet, a few hundred migrant students getting a break on community college tuition is where the line is drawn? One might wonder about the prioritization. It appears the federal government has a peculiar definition of 'wasteful spending.' Apparently, funneling untold billions to defense contractors for weapons used in conflicts abroad is
fiscally responsible, but a state helping a handful of vulnerable students access education is an affront to federal statutes. The audacity of wanting to invest in future taxpayers instead of perpetual warfare and corporate handouts is truly baffling to D.C.'s finest.
