DOJ Investigates Warnings Against 'Illegal Orders,' Spares Genocide Enablers
Al Jazeera reports that five US lawmakers are under DOJ investigation for a video warning troops about illegal orders. The video, released in November, presumably raises uncomfortable questions about US military involvement in operations that Human Rights Watch and Amnesty International have flagged as potential war crimes. This 'investigation' appears less concerned with deterring future
complicity in atrocities and more with silencing dissent. One might wonder where the DOJ’s investigative zeal was when the Biden administration approved record arms sales, including 2,000-pound bombs, to a nation actively facing accusations of genocide in the ICJ. (Or perhaps when administration officials like Secretary Blinken refused to acknowledge the obvious civilian targeting when presented
with evidence.) Apparently, questioning the emperor's new clothes is illegal, but designing them isn't.
