DOJ Finds 'No Basis' for ICE Criminal Probe After Fatal Shooting, Citing 'No Basis'
Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche declared “currently no basis for a criminal civil rights investigation” into the killing of Renee Nicole Good by an ICE agent. This, as Axios highlights, came after federal investigators restricted local access and placed the FBI in sole control. Adding further intrigue, at least six prosecutors, including Joe Thompson who oversaw fraud schemes, resigned from
the U.S. attorney's office in Minnesota over handling of the investigation. The DOJ's lightning-fast pre-determination of 'no basis' conveniently sidesteps the public outcry and the curious exodus of federal prosecutors. One might ponder how the 'intrigue' of six prosecutors resigning over an investigation's handling doesn't quite constitute a 'basis' for, say, a closer look. Perhaps 'no basis' is
just bureaucratic code for 'nothing to see here, move along, especially if you're a federal agent with a gun.'
