While religious leaders quote Matthew 25 and remind us of the Holy Family's own migrant journey, the machinery of state appears to simply be adding tinsel to its operations. The absurdity of weaponizing Christmas joy to justify forced displacement raises questions about
how far the PR machine will go to soften the hard edges of policy. Perhaps next year, ICE will offer 'naughty or nice' lists for asylum seekers, complete with elf-caped drones.
