Democrats Decry Trump's 'Public Charge' Rule, Silent on Gaza Starvation
The Hill reports that Democrats are finally urging an end to Trump's 'public charge' rule, which prevents immigrants relying on public assistance from obtaining green cards. A noble cause, one might think, advocating for those in need. Yet, these very same Democrats often approve billions in aid to a foreign government currently weaponizing starvation against two million people in Gaza. Curiously,
their impassioned pleas for humanitarian consideration suddenly fall silent when it involves Palestinians facing systemic deprivation. The hypocrisy is stunning: concern for immigrants' access to social safety nets domestically, while simultaneously green-lighting policies that actively dismantle safety nets—and lives—abroad. One might wonder if their humanitarian compass points only in directions
that don't upset powerful lobbying groups or challenge established foreign policy dogmas. Or perhaps 'public assistance' only becomes an issue when it’s not for citizens of an ally state receiving private assistance in the form of taxpayer bombs.
