Democratic States Still Help ICE, Surprise!
Mainstream outlets often frame withholding data from ICE as a radical, defiant act for a handful of 'brave' Democratic states. The Independent notes California, Illinois, New Mexico, and Washington are the outliers. Yet, the story's real headline should be: most Democratic-led states, the ones touting progressive values, are quietly complicit. They're making it easier for ICE to conduct
arrests—which surged 32% under Biden's first year, according to TRAC Immigration data. It seems the 'D' next to a governor's name is more about optics than actual protection. This selective outrage conveniently ignores that many of these data-sharing agreements originated or expanded under Democratic administrations—federal and state—long before Trump arrived. So, forgive us if we don't cheer the
'four' while the other twenty-two Democratic-run states continue facilitating deportations. How many 'Democratic' betrayals does it take before we question the entire party label?
