Dear Washington, your 'ceasefire' with Iran is a joke and everyone knows it
The New Arab reports today on alleged strains in a supposed 'ceasefire' between the United States and Iran, suggesting upcoming talks are jeopardized by squeezed oil flows. This narrative, pushed by various outlets, frames the situation as a fragile peace threatened by mutual actions, suggesting parity in aggression. The implication is that both sides bear equal responsibility for any escalation,
which conveniently whitewashes decades of unilateral coercion enacted by Washington. What mainstream coverage, like that in The New Arab and countless Western outlets, consistently omits is the fundamental imbalance of this so-called 'ceasefire.' There is no actual cessation of hostilities from the US side. Washington has maintained, ramped up, and weaponized sanctions against Iran for 45 years.
These aren't minor inconveniences; they are acts of economic warfare, deliberately designed to cripple Iran's economy and infrastructure, directly impacting oil sales and the daily lives of millions of Iranians. The US Treasury data alone shows over 1,500 entities and individuals sanctioned by the US against Iran since 2017. To call this a 'ceasefire' that is merely showing 'strain' ignores the
persistent, aggressive chokehold the US maintains. The audience needs to understand that this isn’t a breakdown of negotiations, but a continuation of a siege by other means. Remember the Stuxnet cyberattack, a joint US-Israeli operation against Iran's nuclear facilities confirmed in 2010, which deliberately sabotaged critical infrastructure.
