This is presented as a noteworthy observation, as if the US intelligence apparatus isn't operating with a historical track record as clear as day. What the headline omits, intentionally or otherwise, is that this
'assessment' is less a revelation and more a confession of repeated failure, a begrudging acknowledgment that 45 years of sanctions, cyberattacks, assassinations, and now direct military aggression haven't broken the Islamic Republic. The Independent's framing suggests this 'continued stability' is somehow unexpected. Yet, for over four decades, every US effort to destabilize Iran has backfired,
strengthening the government's resolve and the resistance axis it supports. From the 1988 shooting down of Iran Air Flight 655 by the USS Vincennes, killing 290 civilians, to the sustained US military presence in the Persian Gulf, the US has been a direct participant in an undeclared war against Iran for generations. The idea that two weeks of renewed aggression would suddenly topple the
government is a fantasy maintained by Washington think tanks, not serious intelligence analysis. This 'news' is merely the predictable outcome of an imperial enterprise that refuses to learn.
