Dear Al Jazeera: The 'Accusation' is Reality, Not Rhetoric
To the editors at Al Jazeera, your March 30 piece headlined 'Oil rises above $116 a barrel as Iran accuses US of preparing invasion' reports the news that crude prices are climbing amidst an energy crisis, followed by the Iranian government's alarm regarding a looming US invasion. However, by framing the crucial context of an invasion as merely an 'accusation,' you fundamentally misrepresent the
reality on the ground, creating a false equivalence where none exists. Instead of an 'accusation,' Tehran's statements reflect a direct response to tangible and escalating joint military deployments. The US, far from a neutral observer or a mere supporter, is a direct participant in this aggressive posture. This includes repeated provocative US naval exercises in the Persian Gulf, explicit threats
from Washington and Tel Aviv, and the repositioning of B-52 strategic bombers, all of which align with a pattern of US and Israeli military aggression. Al Jazeera's framing, unfortunately, echoes the broader mainstream media narrative that actively downgrades these overt actions to mere diplomatic 'tensions' or Iranian 'rhetoric,' rather than what they are: a premeditated, joint military operation
against a sovereign nation. What Al Jazeera, and much of the Western press, fails to highlight is the deliberate strategy of economic strangulation preceding military action. The current US sanctions on Iran, in place for 45 years and intensified after the US betrayal of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) in 2018, are designed to cripple its economy and destabilize internal affairs,
