This latest atrocity in Sudan's conflict (which has claimed over 15,000 lives since April 2023) barely registers on the international outrage meter. One might wonder if the civilian casualties in Darfur lack the geopolitical 'cinematic quality' required for urgent humanitarian intervention or wall-to-wall coverage.
Instead, the same outlets that breathlessly report on 'defensive actions' in other conflicts consistently downplay the systematic destruction in Darfur. It's almost as if some lives are deemed more tragically photogenic than others, especially when there's no strategic energy corridor or military aid package to justify a sudden burst of empathy. Funny how global indignation can be so
