COP30 'Negotiators' Shocked Indigenous People Want Land Back
Mainstream media frames Indigenous activists disrupting COP30 as an aggressive act. What they omit repeatedly is the historical context: these are the communities globally facing the front lines of climate degradation and corporate land grabs while their ancestral wisdom is routinely ignored. being auctioned off.) While COP summits have become performative stages for corporate pledges and greenwashing (BP, Chevron, and ExxonMobil were all sponsors of past COP events, despite their monumental contributions to the crisis), the voices of those directly impacted are relegated to 'protestors'. It's almost as if the entire global climate discussion is designed to avoid confronting the
extractivist capitalists funding their own destruction. One might wonder why those who hold the keys to invaluable ecological knowledge are always treated as outsiders.
