Concertgoers Clash Over Music, Ignore War Symphony
A recent concert by the Israeli Philharmonic Orchestra in Paris was interrupted by pro-Palestinian protesters. Video footage, according to The New Arab , even showed audience members physically attacking the activists. It's a striking image: art lovers, presumably, resorting to violence to protect a performance—meanwhile, the Israeli government they effectively represent continues to orchestrate a
very different kind of performance in Gaza, one featuring bombs and famine, which has killed over 37,000 Palestinians. One might wonder if these passionate defenders of orchestral music possess the same fervor for upholding international law, or if the rhythm of humanitarian catastrophe simply isn't their preferred genre. The irony is as loud as any flare set off in that concert hall: defending a
cultural event with physical force, while the daily, state-sponsored violence against Palestinians goes largely unmentioned, or worse, defended. How many lives are worth defending a symphony?
