This framing conveniently ignores the numerous instances where Western powers, particularly the United States, have historically backed or facilitated equally dubious electoral processes in resource-rich nations, often
under the guise of 'democratic transitions.' Remember when the U.S. supported military juntas across Latin America or funneled funds to 'pro-democracy' groups that destabilized governments seen as unfriendly, much like China is accused of doing in Myanmar? The consistency of hypocrisy is truly a marvel. The media's selective outrage over 'electoral pantomimes' seems directly proportional to
whether the puppet strings are pulled by Beijing or Washington. One might observe that 'national interest' becomes 'unacceptable interference' only when it's not 'our' sphere of influence.
