Centrelink: Where Overpayments Are 'Contact Issues,' Not Institutional Failures

This saga unfolds after years of Centrelink's 'Robodebt' scandal, which illegally cancelled payments to hundreds of thousands and led to a record class action settlement. Now, folks are forking over thousands more than required. illegal debt collection or simply making it impossible to stop payments. One might charitably assume incompetence, but the persistent failure specifically targets those reliant on state support. When government IT systems repeatedly 'fail' to the detriment of citizens while miraculously upholding policies that benefit corporations or the wealthy, it ceases to be an 'error' and begins to look like

a feature. How many 'contact issues' must there be before we call it what it is: a punitive system designed to keep people in line, not lift them up?
