CBS News Finds Children, Still Alive, in Gaza
CBS News showcased a few 'youngest survivors' (emphasis theirs, not mine) from Gaza, a remarkable journalistic feat given the UN's grim estimate of a child killed every hour. The report blandly cites '67,000 Palestinians killed' — a number Hamas put out, which the UN hasn't been allowed to independently verify largely due to continued conflict. Meanwhile, the 'peace talks' mentioned conveniently
forget to mention the U.S.'s consistent veto of UN Security Council resolutions demanding a ceasefire, and the recent approval of another $14 billion in military aid to Israel, overriding Congress's own proposed conditions, like HR 815, which received overwhelming bipartisan support. It’s truly touching that in a war where the U.S. has provided over $3.8 billion annually in military assistance to
one side, coupled with recent emergency aid packages, CBS can still locate children who haven't yet been bombed into oblivion. One might wonder, how many 'survivors' would be left if the arms spigot were ever turned off? And how many more generations of 'youngest survivors' will we celebrate before we stop funding the very conflict that creates them?
