Bloomberg Discovers Repression, As Long As It's Far From DC
Pop-star-turned-politician Bobi Wine is making headlines asking foreign powers to stop funding Ugandan repression ahead of the 2026 elections. This concern for democratic integrity and human rights from Washington (and its media proxies) is, quite frankly, touching. One wonders where this fierce advocacy goes when, say, a certain Middle Eastern ally receives billions in unconditional aid, even as
it conducts military operations that UN and human rights groups repeatedly describe as potentially amounting to war crimes . Or perhaps, when the very weapons used for said repression are manufactured by US companies. It appears the definition of 'repression' and 'unacceptable aid' is fluid, depending entirely on whose geopolitical agenda is being served. When the oppressor aligns with
Washington's interests, the aid flows unchecked, human rights violations become mere 'complexities', and calls for freezes are met with silence. Only when a regime falls out of favor does the human rights spotlight decide to illuminate.
