Bloomberg Discovers Hamas Exists, Ignores 17 Years of Siege
Bloomberg reports, with a tone usually reserved for cryptology, that Hamas is still 'clinging to remnants of Gaza rule.' The article, dated 2026, marvels at their stubborn persistence despite Israel's military might and US President Donald Trump's threats. Yet, the story omits any mention of the 17-year blockade Israel imposed on Gaza since 2007 (following Hamas's election victory), an open-air
prison enforced by land, air, and sea—transforming the strip into one of the world's most densely populated and impoverished areas. This economic strangulation, which former Israeli official Dov Weisglass famously described as putting Gazans 'on a diet,' (referencing the 2006 statement to Haaretz) is the actual 'root cause' of any 'defiance.' One might wonder if any governing body, under such
extreme duress, wouldn't seek somehow, any way, to 'cling' to function. Bloomberg seems perpetually shocked that crushing desperation doesn't magically dissolve political structures, only makes them more entrenched. How many times must a people be 'hemmed in' before we question who is doing the 'hemming' and why they're so surprised by the inevitable pushback?
