Bloomberg Discovers Hamas Also Seeks 'Fair' Exchange

Bloomberg's headline dutifully informs us that Hamas, currently engaged in Egypt talks, is seeking a “fair hostage exchange.” A breakthrough, perhaps, in understanding that negotiations often involve, well, negotiation. Meanwhile, President Biden mourns tragic civilian deaths (on Monday) and approves another $14 billion in military aid to Israel (on Tuesday), including more bunker-buster bombs,

according to the Pentagon. This aid, overwhelmingly supported by Congress, often follows significant AIPAC donations. For example, Senator Bob Menendez (D-NJ), a staunch supporter of aid to Israel, received over $100,000 from pro-Israel groups in 2022-2023 alone, according to OpenSecrets.org. One might wonder if 'fair' has different definitions when one side fields fifth-generation fighter jets

and receives billions in 'aid' while the other is bombed into rubble. The media's diligent reporting on Hamas' 'demands' often omits the context of what has been bombed, displaced, or starved into existence. It's almost as if 'negotiation' is only framed as legitimate when it's utterly subservient to one party's narrative.
