They term this a 'fragile political transition,' which is a remarkably polite way to describe what happens when resistance figures are conveniently silenced. Washington abruptly ceased to be. Of course, Bloomberg skips the historical context. Repressive regimes worldwide have a long, storied tradition of eliminating opposition leaders and then feigning surprise at the subsequent 'violence.' This isn't a 'fragile transition'; it's the predictable fallout of authoritarian consolidation. The real question isn't whether violence will erupt, but how long
until the Western press, ever so neutral, begins lecturing the protestors on the importance of peaceful dissent – a luxury rarely afforded to the dead.
