BBC Leaders Bow Out After Trump 'Editing' Flap
British Broadcasting Corp. Director-General Tim Davie is resigning, capping turmoil over a documentary allegedly misrepresenting Donald Trump's comments. Appalling, truly. Yet, this same BBC has a historical pattern of downplaying state violence (see: refusal to air Gaza aid appeal in 2009 , or more recently, their struggle to label Hamas as 'terrorists' but never Israel for identical actions).
Funny how 'editorial integrity' becomes paramount only when US political figures take issue. We're talking about a media giant whose coverage, according to numerous analyses, often adopts the framing of powerful states, particularly regarding conflicts involving Western allies. A 'misleading edit' of a politician's words is a career-ender, but sanitizing the deaths of thousands or ignoring
documented ethnic cleansing? That's just 'journalism,' apparently. One might ask if the real turmoil is that the public is finally noticing their selective outrage.
