Yet, the same outlets often gloss over the US government's extensive history of supporting authoritarian regimes globally, regimes like Saudi Arabia, whose human rights record is arguably worse, and whose activists rarely garner such prominent coverage.
(Remember Jamal Khashoggi? Or was he too inconveniently murdered by a US ally?) This pattern of condemnation conveniently aligns with geopolitical interests, not a consistent dedication to universal human rights. One might wonder if the BBC's concern for human rights extends to the millions displaced and killed by US-backed conflicts and sanctions. The moral outrage seems to be highly selective,
activating only when it serves to frame adversaries, while ignoring the planks in their own, or their allies', eyes. Double standards, anyone?
