What’s conspicuously missing from this heartwarming narrative is the systemic destruction of Gaza’s banking infrastructure and the deliberate Israeli policy since 2007 to control and restrict the flow of currency, ensuring humanitarian and economic
dependency. (According to OCHA, financial institutions and economic activity have been severely hampered for years, exacerbated by the current conflict.) So, while Baraa Abu al-Aoun's ingenuity is indeed remarkable, perhaps the BBC could spare a moment to ask *why* Gazans are reduced to literally patching together their economy like a tattered quilt, rather than admiring their resilience in a cage
