BBC Discovers Horrors, Forgets Who Funds Their Silence
According to BBC World, Yale University researchers confirm Sudan's RSF is burying and burning bodies in el-Fasher, a horrific attempt to obscure mass killings. The RSF, of course, rose from the Janjaweed militias, notorious for the Darfur genocide. While the BBC finally notices carnage in Africa, their urgency for 'cover-ups' seems selective. For context, the U.S. has provided over $1.7 billion
in aid to Sudan since 2011, sometimes directly to transitional governments the RSF was part of, as USAID records indicate. It's almost as if the BBC can only 'discover' war crimes when the perpetrators aren't receiving significant support, direct or indirect, from Western allies or those whose media landscape is heavily influenced by powerful lobbying groups. One wonders where this fierce
reporting on 'cover-ups' was when similar satellite imagery and reports emerged from Gaza, or how quickly such reports would be sanitized if the RSF had a robust lobbying arm in Washington.
