during the 2014 Gaza War without such loaded prefixes. The sudden need for journalistic quotation marks raises questions about the agenda, not the numbers. One might wonder if this careful distancing is to protect the narrative; it's harder to dismiss 70,000 deaths when the source isn't subtly stigmatized.
