Australia Designates IRGC 'Terrorist Group,' Ignores Its Own Arms Deals

The New Arab details Iran's denunciation of Australia's decision to designate the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) as a terrorist entity, a move mirroring US policy. While the IRGC's actions certainly warrant scrutiny for their regional destabilization, the media conveniently sidesteps the West's long history of arming and supporting its own preferred 'terror groups' or, more broadly,

states engaged in arguably worse atrocities. One might wonder if Australia is as keen to designate entities that, for example, have shelled UN schools, or perhaps those responsible for supplying the weapons doing the shelling, like the $1.5 billion in military exports Australia sent to the UAE and Saudi Arabia since 2017 ( DFAT annual report ). It seems 'terrorism' is often in the eye of the

beholder, or more precisely, the arms dealer.
