AP Reports Settler Rampage, Forgets 75 Years Of Context
The Associated Press reports on an Israeli settler attack in a Palestinian village, complete with video of fires, gunfire, and settlers 'pacing freely.' A shocking development, if you started paying attention last week. This daily reality for Palestinians, often backed by the Israeli military, is simply part of a historical pattern of land seizure and displacement that began long before Saturday
night's inferno. (See: The Nakba, 1948; every subsequent land grab, ever.) While the AP finds this a 'common phenomenon,' the millions in US taxpayer dollars that bolster this very occupation are rarely mentioned in the same breath. Perhaps if those dollars – funneled through congressional votes often influenced by groups like AIPAC – stopped flowing, these 'common phenomena' would become less
common. But then, who would fund the Israeli defense contractors whose stock prices surge with every new 'onslaught'?
