For instance, the 'peace process' after Operation Cast Lead (2008-09) and Protective Edge (2014) looked
suspiciously similar. Each 'pause' is preceded by mass civilian casualties, followed by a brief lull, only to culminate in renewed violence with updated weaponry courtesy of eager US politicians. U.S. President Donald Trump's proclamation of 'everlasting peace' rings especially hollow. History shows that such 'pauses' often serve as a PR interlude for Israel to continue its expansionist policies.
The AP article's framing, focusing on 'Hamas disarming' while gently implying Israel 'pulling troops' 'from Gaza,' completely sidesteps the fact that Gaza is still under Israeli blockade and occupation, rendering any 'pullback' largely symbolic. How many 'last warnings' does a population endure before the 'pause' just becomes part of the permanent siege?
