Remember when the US designated Sudan a state sponsor of terrorism
for decades, crippling its economy and infrastructure? That designation was only lifted in 2020 after Sudan agreed to normalize relations with Israel, a move praised by the Biden administration but which did little to build a stable foundation for the now-collapsing state. We hear about 'rampaging paramilitary fighters' and 'sieges,' but rarely about the international power vacuum and historical
meddling that set Sudan on this violent trajectory. One might wonder what a consistent, non-transactional foreign policy focused on civilian well-being, rather than regional power plays, could have prevented. But that would require acknowledging responsibility, and AP is far too busy documenting the symptoms to diagnose the disease.
