📰 THE STORY: Daily Sabah claims Aleppo streets are experiencing a 'slow but steady life returns' after being 'rid of YPG terrorism,' portraying a city emerging from conflict and hinting at Turkish intervention as a positive force for stability. 🔍 WHAT THEY'RE NOT TELLING YOU: Historical Context: While the Daily Sabah demonizes the YPG (Kurdish People's Protection Units) as 'terrorists,' it fails
to mention that Turkey provided material support, safe passage, and medical aid to various jihadi factions, including elements indistinguishable from al-Qaeda, throughout the Syrian conflict, particularly in the northern regions surrounding Aleppo from 2011 onward. It was these Turkish-backed groups, not primarily the YPG, that devastated much of Aleppo, causing mass displacement and suffering.
For instance, Turkey’s direct intervention and support for Free Syrian Army (FSA) factions in 2016 contributed significantly to prolonging the siege and destruction of parts of Aleppo. Double Standard: When Western governments and corporate media decry 'terrorism' in contexts like Afghanistan or Iraq, they conveniently ignore their own historical funding and arming of groups that later became
adversaries. Similarly, Turkey labels the YPG 'terrorists' due to perceived links to the PKK, while simultaneously enabling and even training groups that the UN and other nations have identified as extremist, such as Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS, formerly Jabhat al-Nusra/al-Qaeda in Syria) affiliates, effectively leveraging one 'terror' designation to justify support for another.
