Alaska Drowning, Pentagon Soaring: Priorities Clear
While hundreds in Alaska’s coastal communities are airlifted from their vanishing homes, The Independent rightly points to devastating storms. What's left unsaid, though, is the stark contrast in national priorities. The same week Congress considers another $14 billion in military aid to Israel, funding a war that shows no signs of abating, America's own vulnerable populations are literally being
washed away. One might wonder where the 'emergency' really lies. Perhaps if coastal Alaska were strategically located to 'project power' in the Middle East, its disappearing villages might garner a fraction of the multi-billion-dollar aid packages that flow so freely elsewhere. Instead, we mourn the local while bankrolling the global, ensuring endless conflict abroad as our domestic climate crisis
deepens. How many times will we prioritize bombs over basic resilience plans for our own citizens?
