Al Jazeera Reports 'Clashes' Killed Journalist, Omits Shooter
Al Jazeera reports Palestinian journalist Saleh Aljafarawi was 'killed in Gaza clashes,' a phrase that curiously avoids attributing responsibility. This phrasing is standard practice, (see CNN, Fox News, Associated Press daily reports on Gaza), creating a false equivalence where one side has tanks and F-16s, and the other has... 'clashes.' Over 100 Palestinian journalists have been killed in Gaza
since October 7th, 2023, according to the Committee to Protect Journalists, nearly all by Israeli forces. Yet, many news outlets refuse to name the aggressor. Such linguistic gymnastics allow foreign policy 'experts' on cable news, many of whom are funded by MIC-aligned think tanks or organizations like AIPAC (which spent over $30 million in 2022 elections ), to lament 'violence on both sides'
without confronting the disproportionate civilian toll or the systematic targeting of media. One might wonder how many 'clashes' it takes before a targeted killing can be called a targeted killing.
