Al Jazeera Discovers Sudan War, Media Ignores US Complicity
Al Jazeera reports on the harrowing escape from el-Fasher, detailing civilian suffering and the 'price of survival' in Sudan. A harrowing, human story of violence and ransom, complete with a quote from a civilian activist. What's missing, however, is any meaningful mention of how we got here. Or, for that matter, who profits from the chaos. While this particular Al Jazeera report focuses on the
immediate humanitarian crisis, its typical broad strokes often exclude the historical context of US interventions, proxy wars, and the geopolitical chess game that fuels such conflicts. For example, Washington-backed proxy forces and destabilization efforts in North Africa and the Middle East (think Libya, Yemen, Syria) consistently pave the way for precisely these types of 'internal' conflicts.
The RSF, for example, has roots in the Janjaweed militias, groups whose atrocities were well-documented and often enabled by external support and regional power vacuums created by Western policy. The corporate media, Al Jazeera included, excels at presenting complex crises as organic humanitarian tragedies, neatly omitting the fingerprints of global powers.
