Al Jazeera Discovers Jake Lang, Forgets About 'Far-Right Influencers' Closer to Home
Al Jazeera dutifully reported on Jake Lang's pitifully attended anti-Islam, anti-Somali, pro-ICE rally in Minneapolis. About ten people showed up for Lang, a January 6 participant now deemed a 'far-right influencer' (which, apparently, includes anyone loud enough to get arrested at the Capitol). While chasing off a fringe figure makes for good local news, it conveniently distracts from the far
more powerful 'influencers' in Washington. One might wonder why Al Jazeera, or any mainstream outlet, struggles to label organizations like AIPAC – which spent over $23 million in the 2022 election cycle and $3.5 million on lobbying in 2023 (OpenSecrets.org) – as 'far-right influencers' when their agenda, by many measures, aligns closely with the objectives of an extremist Israeli government. Why
the scrutiny for a minor street provocateur, but silence for those pushing for endless wars and destabilization from the gilded halls of power? It seems some 'influencers' are more equal, and less chased off, than others.
