Al Jazeera, bless their hearts, brings us a video diary titled 'Rahaf in Gaza,' set for release in October 2025. It's almost as if they're trying to give us a peek into a future where Gaza still exists and civilians need to document their lives under siege. Meanwhile, actual human beings in Gaza are experiencing this today , under a blockade that has been labeled collective punishment by human
rights organizations (Amnesty International, 2023). Perhaps the delayed release offers comfort to those who want to discuss the 'conflict' in the abstract, rather than acknowledge the immediate, devastating reality. While Rahaf dutifully records her existence for a future audience, the present reality involves US-made bombs and a consistent PR campaign to dehumanize Gazans. One might wonder if the
mainstream media's penchant for future-dated reports or 'both-sides-ism' is less about honest reporting and more about waiting until the dust settles (or until the land is cleared) before acknowledging the full human catastrophe. How many 'future' reports must we endure before the present-day genocide is called what it is?
