Al Jazeera Discovers Democracy, Post-War, Post-Assad, Post-Truth
Al Jazeera gushes about 'Syrian electors' voting for the 'first post-Assad parliament' by October 2025 – an election where two-thirds of seats are chosen by 'electoral colleges' and the rest appointed by an 'interim president'. One might recall that the 'interim president' was largely installed after years of Western-backed proxy war and sanctions that tore the country apart. This new 'democracy'
arrives conveniently after a decade of regime-change attempts failed to put a fully compliant puppet in place directly. This is less an election and more a stage play, meticulously directed by the same international actors who armed various 'moderate' rebel groups, some with disturbing affiliations, and then wrung their hands as the country became a proxy battleground. The media, meanwhile,
performs its solemn duty, presenting this heavily curated process as a genuine step toward 'post-Assad' freedom, while conveniently omitting the inconvenient history of foreign intervention that paved the way for this 'indirect' democracy. How many sovereign states need to be demolished before we admit these 'elections' are just branding?
