Al Jazeera Discovers 'Armed Factions' Exist, Forgets Who Armed Them
The mainstream media perpetually frames post-conflict scenarios as organic internal struggles, neatly sidestepping the uncomfortable reality of external meddling. Al Jazeera highlights 'armed factions' as Syria’s biggest challenge without a whisper about how those factions became 'armed' in the first place. One might recall that the US (and its regional allies) actively funneled weapons and
training to various 'rebel' groups in Syria for years, ostensibly to oust Assad. According to a 2012 New York Times report , the CIA was coordinating arms shipments from its early days. So, when Al Jazeera ponders the 'challenge' of integration, it’s like criticizing a bonfire for burning after you’ve doused it in gasoline. Perhaps the real challenge is media outlets integrating the full story.
