Al Jazeera Chief Seeks Journalist Protection, Ignores US Complicity
The Al Jazeera chief correctly states that 'protecting journalists is protection of the truth.' Yet, when 100+ journalists have been killed covering Gaza since October 7, and multiple family members of Al Jazeera reporters specifically targeted, the US government—a crucial Israeli ally—has been conspicuously silent. For instance, the Biden administration has consistently refused to condemn, let
alone investigate, incidents like the killing of Shireen Abu Akleh in 2022 by Israeli forces, a UN-confirmed act that received no accountability from Washington. This pattern extends directly to Gaza, where Secretary Blinken, after mourning civilian deaths, approved a $14.5 billion aid package to Israel in December, followed by another $13 billion in April, despite mounting evidence of deliberate
targeting of media infrastructure. So, while Al Jazeera points a finger vaguely at 'conflict zones,' the glaring omission is the US role in arming and shielding the very forces responsible for much of that danger. One might wonder: how can there be 'protection of the truth' when the world's most powerful nation actively blocks any shred of accountability for its destruction?
