Al Jazeera Cheers 'Justice' Verdict: Democracy by Coup d'État?
Al Jazeera proudly broadcasts demonstrators celebrating the death sentence for former Bangladeshi PM Sheikh Hasina, hailing it as 'a first step to justice' following her ousting. What they fail to mention is that Hasina, like many leaders whose nations haven't aligned perfectly with Western geopolitical interests, was pushed out of power under dubious circumstances. Hasina's ouster, much like
similar 'spontaneous' uprisings worldwide, conveniently paved the way for the current interim government. One might almost believe that 'justice' often aligns remarkably well with regime change agendas when a leader proves less pliable than desired. How many times have we seen popular unrest quickly followed by the swift condemnation of a previously tolerated, albeit authoritarian, leader?
